Minor Oral Surgery (Dr L Ciapparelli)

This includes extractions, but usually involves patients who are referred by their own dentist for difficult or failed extractions, removal of wisdom or impacted teeth, buried roots, biopsies, removal of cysts, apicectomies, investigation of lumps and bumps in the mouth, and operations to expose impacted teeth before orthodontic treatment. Our waiting times are usually shorter than hospital waiting times for similar procedures. For urgent treatment we can usually see you within a few days.

NHS Minor Oral Surgery

Your dentist can refer you for minor oral surgery on the NHS. Your dentist will need to send us an NHS referral form (FP17RN). If you are liable to pay NHS dental charges your own dentist will either charge you the NHS band 2 or 3 rate which includes any treatment your own dentist provides as well as the treatment you have when referred to us. There is no charge for children or patients who are exempt from NHS dental charges.

Private Minor Oral Surgery

As a guide an extraction is between £80 and £120 (July, 2007) dependent on the difficulty. This fee includes x-rays, tablets and any aftercare needed, including immediate emergency care for post operative bleeding. For other procedures all inclusive fees will be quoted, when we make your appointment.

Additional information about minor oral surgery

Most minor oral surgery procedures can be carried out comfortably with local anaesthetic.

For patients who are very nervous we do offer oral sedation, which does not put you to sleep but will make you more relaxed and able to cope. If you do have oral sedation you must be accompanied by a responsible adult and will need to be supervised at home for the rest of the day and you will be unable to drive or operate machinery for 24 hours after. For oral sedation there is an additional charge of £60, for NHS or private patients.

Some oral surgical procedures can result in swelling, which can last for up to 7 days after treatment. You may need to allow for this either workwise or socially.
